Dems: Loosely allied with Al Qaeda

The house just passed a non-binding resolution condemning the increase of soldiers in Iraq, commonly referred to as the Surge.  Of those who voted, all but 17 Republicans voted against the resolution.  All but a few Dems voted for the resolution.

Does this seem bipartisan to you?  Obviously not.  However, Nancy Pelosi, Squeaker of the House, did.  The Dems triumphantly proclaim their bipartisan victory over George Bush.

This isn't about Iraq.  It isn't about the troops, viewed merely as pawns by the Dems.  It's about sticking it to the Man.  And the Man is President Bush. As a conservative Republican, it's hard to see elected officials of this great nation "sticking it" to anybody.  It disgraces Congress.

However this resolution goes far further than payback for Bush winning the 2000 and 2004 election.  In actual fact this is aid and comfort to the enemy.  It is easy for Al Qaeda and Iran and our other Middle East enemies to see through the "support the troops" language.  They see a pacifist, isolationist, weak-kneed political party.  They see a party who supports defeat.  Withdrawal is cowardice.  Total withdrawal is defeat.  They look upon the resolution and nod their heads in agreement with sly smiles on their faces.

The Dems have no shame. They have no shame in the utter hypocrisy of their statements and views.  Just look at the way they have defined energy policy.  You can't have instant energy independence without geological exploitation of hydrocarbons combined with an increase in nuclear power generation.

Thirty years ago the country embarked on alternate fuels programs.  What has happened in thirty years?  Solar energy is more efficient.  It is only 10 times more expensive than 100 times more expensive (guesses, folks) than oil.   Ethanol is one of the greatest boondoggles of the 21st century.  The economic theft and dislocation of resources have been  ignored.  Let's face it, we need practical approaches to energy independence based on reality rather than on the "promise" of science.  Yet the Dems block every effort for off-shore drilling and ANWR.  They were active in the demise of the nuclear power industry and remain that way.

It's the same with our foreign policy.  We must face the Islamist threat.  We are confronted with a perfect storm of 1) a religion (Islam) that can be used as a club to kill, maim, imprison unbelievers with a stated goal to conquer the world with 2) a medieval culture (Arabs, in particular) that supports the religion.  And what do our feckless Democrat congressmen do?  They attack the president rather than be serious partners in dealing with the threat.

When they ignore the threat or minimize it, they are supporting our enemies.  They are giving comfort to Al Qaeda and Iran.  When their principal goal is to sit down and talk, they are playing right into the hands of those who feel they are justified to lie, misdirect... do anything in order to further the cause.  Talking to liars is a counter-productive exercise as the recent North Korean agreement will again prove to be.

The Dems look to Europe as their social goal.  Yet it is Europe that is in the process of collapsing into a continent of Dhimmitude, where infidels have decided to submit to Islam and its onerous cultural restrictions rather than fight for their own culture.

"If you are the enemy of my enemy, you are my friend."  The Dems have shown that they have a common enemy with Al Qaeda in George Bush and his prosecution of the War on Terror.  They are, then, friends.

God, Family, Country & Me

There are four big categories to a thinking person's life:  God, Family, Country and Me.  As we struggle with trying to understand major religious, cultural and political groups, it might be helpful to overlay a group priority of God or Country or Family or Me.

Libertarians?  Me

Islamofascists?  God

Military? Country

Mothers?  Family

The above is a highly simplistic categorization, but the understanding of these major drivers may help us to understand motivations and reactions to events.

Those who put God above all will be social conservatives.  That is because religion is the primary dispenser of moral instruction.  Those who put God far above all other elments may be the most obdurate in their life view because they are driven farther and harder by a source they feel to be unambiguous.  Islamist put God way, way above all else.  In that they are the most intractable and immune to what we in the West would call reason.

Country is similar in concept to God.  "God & Country" is a fusionist slogan that a nationalist would use where they feel that God has blessed the Country they live in and there is a strong link.  Nationalism can seek to replace religion if it cannot co-opt it.  Nazi Germany, Soviet Union are examples of Country supplanting God.  Manifest Destiny of America is a fusionist concept linking God with the United States.

Family, as an identifier, covers most of the human race unless their secular nature has stripped them of family relationships.  A good vision of family is the Arab world.  Although Islam is the overlay, the tribal allegiances can trump virtually everything.  In Iraq, there is Sunni and Shia, but with in cities it can be tribe vs. tribe that determines the allegiance to Iraq, the Country.

The Me identifier has infected the west.  Secular humanism, GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender) issues, women issues, political correctness is most of its forms is 'ME" identification.  Who I am , what I do and my privelege to do so are Me issues.   Those more interested in ME than in the broader identifiers can weaken institutions because institutions are social constructs.  In the end, "ME brings down social constructs because of it's singular focus on a single unit.    Those seeking personal power devolve into ME identification.  Dictators become ME people.  The Democrat party is run by ME interest groups.  Therefore it is inward looking and  will eventually lead to decadence because it only looks inward.  Europe is a ME continent.  It's focus is on personal welfare, lifetime employment... life without risk.  Because of that Europe is demoralized in the literal sense.  It has lost its moral sense.

Where is the power?  What makes a civilization vital?  It is not through ME.  It is through humans putting their trust in higher institutions...  It is through humans realizing that there is more than self.  A mother sacrifices for her child.  That is power.  A soldier sacrificing himself on the battlefield.  That is power.  A Christian sacrificing his time and money to help others.  That is power.

There is a flip side to that.  The Hamas youth strapping on a suicide belt to murder Israelis, knowing that Allah will look kindly on his act...  that is also power.  The Nazi war machine knowing that the Aryan nation is pure and needs to rule the world... that is also power.

If Europe and the U.S. continue to slide into ME, those with identities at higher levels will have the vitality and the power to overcome us.  For Country and Family, we need to fight the forces that would take our way of life from us.  In that there is power.  It seems the ME Democrats would take that ability away from us.

What Fools We Mortals Be

In seeing all of the progressive "initiatives" making the rounds, it is amazing to me how feckless human kind is.  Political correctness trumps common sense.  The global warming crowd ignores any, and I mean ANY kind of dissent to their view that climate is changing.  The anti-war people are intent on giving aid and comfort to our sworn enemies, even at the highest levels of the Democrat party.  Where has reason, tolerance and perspective gone?

It seems that if you are on one side or the other of any kind of controversy that an accomodation is not permitted.  Why is that?  Why can't we see the big picture and try and fit other points of view into our own?  It's because human nature is vicious and ignorant.  We have complex emotions that cloud our minds.  We have bodily appetites that get in the way of cold rational thought.  What to do?

Well, there just isn't much to do except go on crusades to find others who feel the way you do.  That is what happens and that is what special interest group dynamics are all about.  Those who are more successful in persuading others (notably pro-abortionists and the gay community) are able to ever so slightly, shape public opinion.  The rest of us are left scratching our heads thinking how can this or that happen.

Unfortunately it is a human phenomenom that hasn't changed since humans were first on the earth.  Read Plutarch's Lives.  Read any number of historical profiles and either directly or between the lines you will see what is called human nature....  and it is perverse.

Why else would a national party proclaim the need for energy independence and thwart oil drilling activities and nuclear power generation.  Does that make sense?  no.

Why else would an ex-presidential candidate parade around the world with a documentary that is based on easily vetted false assumptions and be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize?  Human nature.

We are stuck with it and with all the ills it provides us.  Stupid decisions (banning DDT based on a discredited novelists book, Silent Spring)...  Schools that teach self-esteem rather than needed life skills. (why is it good to feel good about yourself when you are 20 years old, unemployable and hanging around on a street corner?)...  Keep maintaining that President Bush lied in his State of the Union address years ago about Saddam Hussein seeking uranium when the words are "seeking" not has and there is international corroboration that he was looking for it?

Power, greed, guilt, envy.  All of these quailities are burdens the human race has to bear as it tries to behave as a rational way.  We always like to think that others are like us and think like us.  North Koreans lie.  Face it, Kim Jong Il lies and has not fulfilled his any of any agreement.  Fundamental Islamists and their muslim sympathizers hate America.  It's not because we are not nice to them.  Their hatred is a complex stew of envy, guilt, and that ever amazing combination of repulsion/attraction at the free lifestyle of the American culture.

We think that by reason and calm discussion that all of these differences can be whisked away.  Sorry.  What we need are social psychologists that can work with us to realize that people are different and those differences are not skin-deep, but are entrenched feelings and reactions to social structures that has the potential to totally block what we would consider a positive outcome.

Conservatives have their own issues and differences within their ranks.  Yet, since they deal with time-evolved social, political and human constructs, their point of view is often the most rational and more in the interests of the human race.

Ah.  What fools we mortals be.
