Is There Nothing Worth Fighting For?

Is there nothing in America worth fighting for?  Mark Steyn in his weekly column at the Chicago Sun-Times asks this question as he posits on the state of our attitude toward spread of Islamist influence:

Too many of us are only good at enjoying freedom. That war-is-never-the-answer 25 percent are in essence saying that there's nothing about America worth fighting for, and that, ultimately, the continuation of their society is a bet on the kindness of strangers -- on the goodnaturedness of Kim Jong Il and the mullahs and al-Qaida and what the president called "al-Qaida lookalikes and al-Qaida wannabes" and whatever nuclear combination thereof comes down the pike.

This is the question that should be posited to every Democrat candidate this election.   Is America worth fighting for?  How, exactly will you do that?  Most of the muddle-headed answers (or muggle-headed for you Potter enthusiasts) will be of course it's worth fighting for.  I'm a patriot.  We need more port protection.  We need to withdraw from Iraq.   We can't sacrifice our sons and daughters... etc. etc. etc.

The real answer is that they are not fighting for anything other than political power and the ability to shackle every man, woman and child in the United States under a European-ized welfare state.  Underneath the steely underbelly of the Democrat party is the fact that there is not and has not for a long time been any love for the America of independent action.  There is no love for the silent majority.  There is no love for blacks or other minorities.  However, there is a drive to have all minorities in their thrall.  There is a narcisstic love of power... however they can get it.  The focus in inward, not outward.

Any feelings to belong are globalist.  Democrats love Eurocrats.  They would love to impose their will on the hapless masses administratively, not through the will of the people.  This is what the Democrats love.  This is what the Democrats fight for.  It isn't enough!

A globalist government run by administrators is not what our men and women overseas, especially in Iraq, are fighting for.  They are fighting for the American way.  The freedom to speak, act, vote, move, breathe.  They are fighting for a color-blind America where anyone can rise from anywhere and succeed in any field according to their abilities and motivation.  Not the color of their skin, ancestral origin, or economic starting point.  This indirectly means that  certain elements of inequality is OK, so motivated people can succeed.

America is worth fighting for because it is a unique country in the world.  America is worth spending billions of our collective dollars in continuing that uniqueness.  That means an engaging diplomacy and a strong defense.  That doesn't mean an acquiescent, appeasement diplomacy and an emasculated defense to show the world how non-beligerent our country is.  Yet, amazingly, in time of war, that is exactly the position of the Democrat party.
